Our story

You know how the story begins. A tower, a forest, a girl with impossible hair.

And then Rapunzel found the desert.

She was never meant to stay in the forest. She took the adventure to the Sonoran Desert, where the sun is relentless and nothing holds its moisture. That is where she learned what skin really needs. Skin cared for here does well anywhere.

The fairytale is imagined. The place is real.

Our clients named it. In the earliest days, they called Stephanie “Rapunzel” for her very long hair and healthy, glowing skin so often that shortly after opening, she renamed the spa Rapunzel’s.

What began as an affectionate nickname became a reflection of the care she wanted to share. Stephanie created the spa to bring a lifetime of learning about skin and hair into thoughtful treatments, tailored to each person. More than twenty years later, that personal care remains at the heart of Rapunzel's in Tucson.

Welcome to Rapunzel's: Where Healing Meets Heritage

Founded over 20 years ago by Stephanie Peterman, a Tucson native whose family has made this city home for five generations, Rapunzel's is a luxury spa in Tucson built on a legacy of herbal wisdom and honest care that looks at the whole picture, not just the surface. Her family were pioneers in natural wellness long before it became mainstream, passing down knowledge of botanicals, herbs and the plants of the Sonoran Desert through generations.

Stephanie grew up surrounded by that world, learning to read the body's quiet signals and to treat the desert as a living apothecary. Well before natural skincare became a trend, she wasn't following—she was creating. That visionary approach flows through every service at Rapunzel's, from our facials and advanced dermaplaning to our iridology clinic and exclusive monsoon room hydrotherapy. Guests come to us from all over the world, and many of them tell us it is the best spa experience they have ever had. Long before lymphatic facials appeared on menus around Tucson, they were on hers. Stephanie was the first in the city to offer them, and the technique she refined here is still the heart of a Rapunzel's facial.

The place itself

Our historic fire station transforms the moment you step inside—a serene haven that feels like entering another dimension of calm and renewal. Nothing here is generic. Every detail reflects our intention to create not just a spa, but a place that restores, nurtures, and honors you.

Clients return not for the visible results alone, though those speak for themselves. They come back because they feel truly seen, heard, and cared for. That is the Rapunzel's difference.

What a visit is like

A Rapunzel's facial does not stop at the face. The neck, the shoulders, the scalp and the way you have been carrying the day are all part of the same appointment, which is why most of them run ninety minutes or longer. Nothing here is rushed and nothing here is invasive. You leave looking less puffy, more rested, and more like yourself.

At the heart of it all is the Monsoon Room — Tucson's only Vichy shower, and three unhurried hours head to toe beneath it. Guests tell us it's the best shower of their lives. It's a body scrub, a head spa and a facial in one appointment.

The Iridology Clinic

We're also honored to house a dedicated Iridology Clinic, making us one of the few destinations in the country where intuitive assessment and hands-on wellness coaching unite under one roof.

Whether you're seeking stress relief, skin transformation, pain relief, or clarity, you'll find more than a service here. You'll find a restorative experience designed to honor your body and your story.
